Due to circumstances beyond her control, Liz Cheney is unable to appear at HD Dialogue. She has asked her friend Karl Rove, former President Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush, Author of "Courage and Consequence", Fox News Contributor, Wall Street and Newsweek Columnist to "fill-in"for her.

Karl Rove served as Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush from 2000-2007 and Deputy Chief of Staff from 2004-2007. At the White House he oversaw the Offices of Strategic Initiatives, Political Affairs, Public Liaison, and Intergovernmental Affairs and was Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, coordinating the White House policy-making process.

After Three Years, Tata-Iveco Alliance Lies in Cold Storage

More than three years after Tata Motors and Iveco, a Fiat Group company, signed a comprehensive agreement to jointly explore opportunities in the area of commercial vehicles, the plan has largely remained in cold storage.

In February 2007, Tata Motors and Iveco signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for potential developments in engineering, manufacturing, sourcing and distribution of products and components. The MoU also paved the way for Tata Motors' ambitious plan of launching its own range of trucks and buses overseas and Iveco's models in India. These would have been done through leveraging the distribution and marketing strengths of both companies.

U.S., Mexico See End of Truck Dispute

MEXICO CITY--A program to allow Mexican trucks to operate in the U.S. could be "up and running" in four to six months, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said Monday, potentially ending a dispute between the two countries that has lasted more than a decade.

Speaking alongside Mexican and Canadian trade officials at an annual meeting under the North American Free Trade Agreement, Kirk said the U.S. "would like to sit down and begin" negotiations with Mexico in the next week.

ArvinMeritor Breaks Ground in Nanjing

ArvinMeritor has broken ground at its technical center and manufacturing facility in Nanjing, located in the Jiangsu Province.

The company is investing approximately $16 million in a 32,000 square meter facility that will accelerate the company's ability to provide dedicated engineering capabilities, advanced product solutions and localized production for its customers in China. When fully operational, the facility will staff approximately 500 employees.

Outgoing Volvo AB CEO to Ericsson, BP Chairman as Possible Replacement

The outgoing chief executive officer (CEO) of Volvo AB, Leif Johansson, has been linked with the chairmanship of electronic telecommunications company Ericsson, reports Dow Jones International News.

The news service cited a report in Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri. The newspaper also reported that Carl-Henric Svanberg, the current chairman of BP and former CEO of Ericsson CEO is "the hottest candidate" to become the new chairman of Volvo.

Johnson Controls to Invest $350 Mln to Expand Battery Production

DETROIT - Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) plans to invest $350 million over the next five years to expand production of its start-stop batteries in the U.S. and Europe amid surging demand.

The company is considering a plan to build a plant somewhere in the U.S. with a decision likely to be made within the next three to four months, said Alex Molinaroli, Johnson Controls' president of power solutions. The plant could employ as many as 200 people when fully operational.

Tension As Rival Unions Demand Elections from Ashok Leyland

Hosur, TAMIL NADU over 500 employees of the Ashok Leyland Unit II here began an indefinite hunger strike from Thursday morning in protest against the management's failure to conduct elections to the workers' union.

The employees were led by Michael Fernandez, president of the Ashok Leyland Unit I affiliated Labour Front.

Republic of Ghana Orders 104 Custom Fire Trucks from Oshkosh's Pierce

Oshkosh, Wis. -- Oshkosh Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Pierce Manufacturing, has received an order for 104 custom fire trucks from U.S. exporter Project Development International (PDI) for Ghana's Ministry of Interior Service and the Ghana National Fire Service. The order includes a combination of 90 pumper tanker units, 10 water tender vehicles and four aerial ladder vehicles. Shipment of the vehicles will be completed by early 2012. This order is valued at more than $31 million.

Williams Controls Inaugurates New India Manufacturing Plant

PUNE, INDIA -- Williams Controls (NASDAQ: WMCO) announced today that it inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Pune, India, on January 11, 2011. The plant will manufacture electronic pedals for Williams' growing base of customers in India's truck, bus and off-road markets. Validation testing for the plant was completed in December 2010, with production scheduled to begin in February.

Norway's Kongsberg: $45M North American Truck OEM Clutch System Order

Norwegian car parts supplier Kongsberg Automotive Holding ASA said Monday it has been awarded a EUR35M 5 year contract to supply one of the biggest truck manufacturers in North America with a complete clutch actuation system.

Production is to start in 2012. North American trucks have so far not used servo assistance in their clutch actuation systems.
