Russian Truck Show Highlights Fast-Growing Market

During five days in September, the commercial vehicle show COMTRANS in Russian capital Moscow displayed all possible offerings in this rapidly emerging market from Russian, Western, Japanese and even Chinese manufacturers.

The exhibition included heavy and light duty trucks for most applications, buses and coaches, trailers and bodies, vans, special vehicles, components and systems as well as various services for the transport and commercial vehicle industry. Wabco, for instance, unveiled its electronic tire pressure monitoring technology.

ST PETERSBURG, September 28 (Itar-Tass) - An innovative strategy for the development of towns and regions, the training of personnel for the country's new economy, as well as a cluster policy will be the main subjects for discussion at the 4th international innovation forum opening here on Wednesday.

The forum, which is to be held at the LenExpo exhibition compound, has drawn Russian and foreign participants in innovations-related activities from various fields -- Federal and regional government bodies, investors, scientists, educators, and institutions for development.

China Further Opens Up Central Region to Foreign Investment

China will further open up its central region to foreign investments, as a way to accelerate the country's industrial upgrading and maintain sustainable economic growth, senior central government officials said on September 26, China Daily reported. "We will continue creating a fairer and more transparent investment environment to attract more foreign investments to the central China region," Vice-Premier Wang Qishan said during a forum at Expo Central China 2011 in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province.

With a total area of 1.03 million square kilometers and a population of 370 million, the central China region consists of six provinces: Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan. The area boasts abundant land, mineral resources and low-cost labor. It accounts for one-fifth of the nation's economy, but it is also home to numerous traditional industries, the newspaper said.

Daimler’s Chinese Truck Venture Gets Government Approval

Daimler Trucks said Monday it has received final authority from Chinese authorities for a joint-venture with Chinese truck maker Beiqi Foton Motor Co.

The venture, ‘Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd.,’ which will build low cost medium- and heavy-duty trucks for China and for export, received final approval from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce “to thoroughly participate in the growth of the Chinese truck market,” Daimler said in a statement.

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement partners, Canada and Mexico, was 18.1 percent higher in July than in July 2010, totaling $72.4 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The month-to-month value, which can be affected by seasonal variations and other factors, decreased 6.7 percent in July from June.

The value rose 40.4 percent in two years from July 2009, but still has risen only 1.0 percent above the level of July 2008. The value increased by 29.4 percent when compared to July 2006, and also increased by 77.1 percent when compared to July 2001. Imports were up 60.7 percent since July 2001, while exports were up 100.8 percent.

Ashok Leyland Expects Nissan JV to Sell 55,000 LCV in First Year of its Launch

Mumbai: India's second largest commercial vehicles maker Ashok Leyland (BOM: 500477) expects its joint venture, Nissan-Ashok Leyland Powertrain Ltd to sell 55,000 light commercial vehicles (LCV) in the first year of its launch, the Reuters reported citing V Sumantran, chairman of JV on Wednesday.

Nissan-Ashok Leyland Powertrain Ltd, is a JV firm between Ashok Leyland and its Japanese partner Nissan. The JV was formed to manufacture LCVs, buses and vans in India.
