Delhi: Brig Khutub Hai, MD & CEO, Defense Land Systems India (DLSI), , today handed over the keys of the Company's first Mine Protected Vehicle India (MPV-I) to Mr. B. B. Pradhan, Additional Director General of Police, Jharkhand Police, commencing fulfillment of the State's order of six MPVIs. DLSI is a joint venture enterprise between Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (74 percent) and global defense and security company BAE Systems PLC (26 percent).

The head of one of the US’s biggest manufacturers has launched a scathing attack on Washington, saying the country’s economy could be dragged into another recession because of political brinkmanship on Capitol Hill.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Doug Oberhelman, chief executive of Caterpillar, the world’s biggest maker of earthmoving equipment by revenue, said he feared that pending bilateral trade agreements and road-building legislation could fall victim to political bickering.

David Tate, president & COO of East Manufacturing Corp., has announced he will retire on Nov. 1, 2011, following 32 years in the trucking industry.

Tate joined East in 1979 as director of marketing, and also served as vice president-sales & marketing and executive vice president prior to promotion to his current position in 1999. David de Poincy will replace Tate as president & COO.

PACCAR Selects DAF Brazil Factory Site

BELLEVUE, Wash., PACCAR announced plans to construct its new DAF Brasil assembly facility on a 500-acre site in the city of Ponta Grossa in the state of Parana. "PACCAR is pleased to invest $200 million in its DAF facility in the dynamic and progressive state of Parana," commented Mark Pigott, chairman and chief executive officer. "Ponta Grossa has an excellent workforce and proximity to strategic supplier partners and the port of Paranagua. We appreciate the outstanding support from the state of Parana and the city of Ponta Grossa in partnering with PACCAR to bring this major economic investment to the area," said Pigott. Construction of the 330,000-square-foot assembly facility is projected to begin in 2011 and be completed in 2013. The new facility will be designed to assemble the DAF LF, CF and XF models, to meet current and future requirements of the Brazilian transport industry. "This will be one of PACCAR's most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly facilities," shared Bob Christensen, executive vice president. The Brasil truck market over six tons is 170,000 units and is expected to grow in the coming years. "Over time, as production levels increase, the facility is expected to hire up to five hundred employees.

Volvo to Make Thailand Regional Truck and Bus Production Hub

Volvo, a Sweden-based automaker, is planning to make Thailand its regional truck and bus production hub. Burint Opassetthakul, vice-president for commercial vehicles and marketing at Volvo Truck & Bus (Thailand) Co, stated that the automaker will increase local production of the vehicles exponentially over the next two years in a bid to serve rising local and international demand.

Department of Commerce Organizing LV and CV Trade Mission to Russia

The U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service is organizing an Automotive Parts and Components Business Development Mission to Russia on April 23 – 28, 2012. Led by a senior Department of Commerce official, this mission is designed to provide an opportunity to explore Russia’s rapidly expanding car and truck assembly market to a diverse cross section of companies selling goods and services into the automotive sector.

The program will begin in Moscow and include site visits and consultations in St. Petersburg and in Samara and Togliatti - centers of Russia’s auto industry. In addition to market briefings by industry experts, the mission program will include opportunities to meet key Russian Government officials and decision-makers, one-on-one meetings with potential business partners and site visits to automotive assembly plants and component manufacturers.
