China Plans 'Cash for Clunkers' to Boost Weak Bus, Truck and Car Sales

China says it plans to pay up to nearly $2,800 for old vehicles headed to the scrap heap, in a move aimed at perking up slumping sales.

The ministries of finance and commerce announced the plan Wednesday, as industry figures showed vehicle sales slumped by about 14 percent in May from the month before.

Sinotruk to Begin Exporting Heavy Trucks to Brazil

Sinotruk, the international arm of China National heavy Duty Truck Company (CNHTC), exported 26 heavy-duty trucks to Brazil on 31 May, reports SinoCast. Sinotruk used the Huangdao customs clearance center in the port city of Qingdao, which has created a special simplified export procedure to help speed up vehicle exports. Sinotruk will in the future export 130 heavy trucks every month to Brazil using the Huangdao center.

Earlier this year Sinotruk signed a deal to export 1,500 trucks to Nigeria, marking the single largest deal for heavy truck exports.

Interacting with newsmen in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, Ravindra Pisharody, president (commercial vehicles business units) of Tata Motors, said they have plans to launch proposed models for mining and construction sectors.

Denso has today (02 June) unveiled Hikaru Sugi as its new president and CEO of Denso International America (DIAM), effective 22 June.

Sugi is senior executive director of Denso and replaces Yoshiki Sekiguchi, who is retiring from the company. As president and CEO of DIAM, Sugi also will serve as chairman of the board of directors for the North American Denso Group.

Labor Forces a Rethink on Worker Costs in India - The Unions Strike Back

Maruti Suzuki India, the local unit of Suzuki Motor, is facing what has become a familiar hazard in the country: labor action.

On Wednesday, a strike by about 2,000 workers at one plant entered the fourth day. With $9 million of potential revenue lost each day from the closure, the total is about $32 million, or close to 1.5 percent of last quarter's revenue.

Mahindra & Mahindra Reports 20 percent Growth in May 2011 Sales

New Delhi, June 02 -- Home-grown utility maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has reported a 20 percent jump in its total sales in May at 34,323 units as against 28,488 in the same month last year. In May, the company registered a 19 per cent jump in sales in the domestic market to 32,159 units as compared to 27,038 units in the same month last year. In the passenger vehicles segment, (which includes UVs as well as the newly-launched Verito), M&M recorded a 20 percent increase in May to 16,702 units, as against 13,939 units in the same month last year.

Siemens Executive Rene Umlauft May Join MAN SE

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- The head of Siemens AG's (SIE.XE) renewable energy division, Rene Umlauft, is a candidate to join MAN SE (MAN.XE) as head of the German engineering company's diesel and turbo unit, two people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.

A final decision hasn't been made as approval from MAN's supervisory board is still pending, one person said.
