European Commission May Limit Trailer Heights, OEMS Respond

According to a report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in Europe, the European Commission is considering a trailer height limit of 4 meters (13 ft, 1 inch) throughout Europe. Robin Dickeson, manager-commercial vehicle affairs, said the proposal could be published next week.

"If this makes its way onto the statute book it will limit high cubic capacity double-deck and hump-backed trailers,"said Dickeson in a release from SMMT.

Audi Purchasing Chief Might Move To VW Truck Ops-Sources

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)-- Audi AG's (NSU.XE) executive board member responsible for purchasing, Ulf Berkenhagen, is set to leave the luxury car maker and might take over a post at parent company Volkswagen AG's (VOW.XE) new truck operations, people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.

HDAW'11 One-on-One Meeting Supplier Registration Now Open

ORLAND PARK, IL - Conference organizers have officially opened supplier registration for its One-on-One meetings for Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week'11 in Las Vegas in January. Participation in the pre-scheduled meetings between suppliers and distributors is expected to exceed the more than 1200 meetings held last year.

HDAW \11 will be held at the Mirage, Las Vegas, Nev., Monday Jan. 17 through Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. Deadline for suppliers to register for One-on-One meetings is Thursday, September 30, 2010.

AlixPartners: North American Truck Makers Could Be Shut-Out from Half Of Global Market

Within four years, North American commercial vehicle companies won't be able to compete against low-cost commercial vehicle manufacturers based in emerging-market countries such as Russia, India and China, according to a study by AlixPartners LLP, a global business advisory firm.

If current growth and cost trends persist, that'll shut the door on North American competitors to about half of the global vehicle market by 2014, according to the study.
