INDIA: Moody's Upgrades Tata Credit Rating

Tata Motors has seen its credit rating upgraded by Moody's Investors Service to Ba3 from B2. The ratings agency also changed the outlook on the rating to stable from positive.

"The rating upgrade reflects the recovery in the operating performance of the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) business exceeding our expectations and the company's fast growing Indian business remaining solidly profitable, which have resulted in a much improved leverage ratio for TML," said Alan Greene, a Moody's VP/senior credit officer.

Oshkosh Lays Strategies to Expand Presence in China

TIANJIN - US-based specialty vehicles maker Oshkosh Corporation said it is adopting two strategies - self-building channels and pursuing potential acquisition opportunities - to speed up development in China.

The company recently launched its first Asian manufacturing plant in Tianjin. The $40-million plant was completed in June with a production capacity of 15,000 units of JLG access equipment. Oshkosh acquired JLG, one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of access equipment, in 2006 with $3.2 billion.

Tata Daewoo Plans To Enter Europe Market

Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co., the Korean unit of India's largest automaker Tata Motors Ltd., said yesterday it will soon begin selling its commercial trucks in the European market.

Kim Jong-shik, president and CEO of Tata Daewoo, said the company was also considering shipping to Europe complete knockdown kits, or CKDs, that can be assembled into vehicles.

DOT, EPA Release Proposed Rule for Heavy and Medium-Duty Truck Emissions

The Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Monday announced the first-ever standards to improve fuel efficiency of heavy-duty trucks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

EPA and NHTSA announced the standards, which are scheduled to take effect in the 2014 model year, with a second round of targets in place in 2018. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson introduced the rule at a Washington press conference. NHTSA is part of the Department of Transportation.

Beiqi Foton and Theng Heavy Engineering Machinery Company Form JV

Cummins Reports Higher 3Q Sales and Profits on International Performance

Cummins Inc. last week reported that both third-quarter sales and profits increased sharply from the same period a year ago. Sales of $3.40 billion in the third quarter rose 34 percent from $2.53 billion in the same quarter in 2009. Net income attributable to Cummins Inc. in the third quarter tripled to $283 million, or $1.44 a share, compared to $95 million, or $0.48 a share, in the same period a year ago. The company's continued strong performance in international markets was a primary driver of the improved results.

Daimler to Unveil New Indian Brand and Logo in February

Chennai - Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd, which will start selling heavy duty trucks in India from mid-2012, intends to unveil a new brand and a corporate logo in February, the company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Marc Llistosella, told Business Line.

However, that is all he could say on the subject at this point in time.

EU-Korea FTA Opens European Supplier Opportunities

A new free trade agreement between the EU and South Korea will open up new opportunities for European suppliers.

The agreement will eliminate import duties making European suppliers more cost competitive overnight.

Due to come into effect from next July, the agreement will also give allow Korean car companies larger margins to play in Europe.

Kamaz Opens Kamaz-Vostok Truck Assembly Facility in Khabarovsk, Russia

Russian truck maker Kamaz has opened an assembly facility in the Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk.

The facility, called Kamaz-Vostok, is expected to produce crew buses, insulated vans, and high sided trucks and has an annual production capacity of around 250 units.
