Europe New Heavy Truck YoY Registrations Plummet 47.9 Percent in 2009

New commercial vehicle registrations in Europe declined by 32.4 percent last year, compared to 2008, affecting all segments and all countries, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

In total, 1,706,996 vehicles were registered throughout the year. December registrations decreased by 10.6 percent, reflecting a more moderate drop in demand for vans than in the months before.

Germany’s MAN to Grow Heavy-Duty Truck Sales 40 Percent

German commercial vehicles maker MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Group plans to grow sales in China by 40 percent this year and further expand its market share in the imported premium heavy-duty truck segment. "We are planning to sell more heavy-duty trucks this year," said Benny Lim, president of MAN Truck and Bus China. Last year, the world's third largest truck maker accounted for nearly 380 of the 5,000 heavy-duty trucks imported and sold in the country.

Volvo Sweden Sees Orders Uplift, Increased Truck Production

In recent months Volvo Trucks has seen positive signs of increased demand from its customers, albeit from a very low level.

The firm says that after a reduction in the new truck inventory, the production of new vehicles will now be increased.

US EPA Tightens Air Quality Standard for Nitrogen Dioxide

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced on Jan. 25 a new national air quality standard (NAAQS) for nitrogen dioxide (NO2). This new standard seeks to protect the public from peak short-term exposures, which primarily occur near major roads. According to the EPA, short-term exposures to NO2 have been linked to impaired lung function and increased respiratory infections, especially in people with asthma.

ACEA: European CV Registrations Showing Signs of Stabilization

The European Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACEA) released December European commercial vehicle registrations (its equivalent to our monthly sales) showing an 11 percent decline, slightly improving from a 16 percent decline in November.

For 2009, European commercial vehicle registrations declined by 32 percent, which indicates we are now seeing signs of moderating comparisons and stabilization. Coming off successive record years in 2007-2008, we estimate that western European commercial vehicle production (different from registrations) declined 65 percent in 2009, adjusting for higher levels of inventory and a slowdown in exports to eastern Europe.

Volvo Trucks Subsidiary Launches Renault Master

Renault Trucks, a subsidiary of Volvo, has launched a new generation of Renault Master while continuing its light commercial vehicle cooperation with Renault. The new generation vehicle will be sold through Renault Trucks' dealer network in Europe.

According to the company, the market launch will begin in European markets from April 2010 onwards. Within the Renault-Renault Trucks cooperation, new Renault Master vans will continue to be built at the Renault plant, SOVAB (Socit des Vhicules Automobiles de Batilly), located in Batilly, France.

Volvo Trucks Signs Supplier Agreement with Deutsche Post DHL

Volvo Trucks, a subsidiary of Volvo AB (NASDAQ: VOLV) (STO: VOLVA) (STO: VOLVB), has signed a supplier agreement with Deutsche Post DHL.

The deal has been signed for the supply of 1,800 trucks over the next two years.
