Mahindra Trucks Earn EPA Certification

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. announced it has finally received clearance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to sell its pickup trucks in the country, ending months of delays in getting the Indian-built trucks to U.S. shores.

The trucks, which were supposed to go on sale here in August, 2009, have had their U.S. debut delayed numerous times while the manufacturer worked to bring the trucks into compliance with U.S. regulations, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Two-Week Strike Ends at Hoskote's Volvo AB Bus Factory

Volvo AB, a Sweden-based automaker, has announced that its employees have ended their two-week long strike at Volvo Bus factory in Hoskote near Bangalore.

The strike has been ended after the management and workers union worked up a mutual agreement on wage revision.

Wabco/Fuwa JV to Supply Europe's VALX with Air Disc Technology

Wabco has announced that it will supply advanced air disc braking technology to VALX, a new European supplier of heavy duty trailer axles, through Wabco's joint venture in China with Fuwa, the world's largest manufacturer of commercial trailer axles. The development is described as marking another milestone in Wabco's global expansion.

Dutch company VALX has recently introduced its new range of trailer axles in 19.5- and 22.5-inch wheel sizes for the European market.

Scania Increasing Production ˆ’ Will Resume Five-Day Week in April

Sdertlje, Sweden - Scania is increasing its production and is therefore making an exception from the current agreement on a four-day week during the first half of 2010 for workshop employees in Sweden. According to the agreement, white collar employees will resume a five-day week in April.

"There is a need to increase production mainly because demand remains very high in Brazil, but some recovery is also occurring in Europe. By efficiently utilizing our global production structure, we are boosting our manufacturing rate in Europe so that we can supply South American production units with components,"says Anders Nielsen, Executive Vice President, Production and Logistics.

FAW Jiefang Confident To Take 20 Percent of China's Truck Market

Changchun, FAW Jiefang Automotive Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the FAW Group specializing in truck manufacturing based in northeast China's Jilin province, is likely to achieve annual sales of 240,000 units this year, estimated to account for 20 percent of the country's total, said the company.

Total sales of China's truck sector are likely to reach 1.2 million units this year, predicted Meng Fanwen, head of the marketing unit of FAW Jiefang.

Chinese Govt Approves Volvo Sale of JV Stake

Chinese authorities have approved plans by Sinotruk, a subsidiary of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Corporation (CNHTC), to acquire all of Volvo Group's equity interest in the Jinan Huawo Truck Corporation joint venture. The Swedish truck manufacturer held 50 percent of the equity interest.

CNHTC-Wangpai JV to Establish CV Manufacturing Facility in China

China National Heavy Duty Truck Company (CNHTC) has signed a new commercial vehicle (CV) joint-venture (JV) agreement with Chengdu Wangpai Vehicles, reports Xinhua's China News Agency. The agreement, 80 percent in favor of CNHTC, will see the pair jointly develop a range of new vehicles in the light, medium, and heavy segments, and build them at a new plant in Chengdu in Sichuan province.

JINAN - China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co. (CNHTC), one of China's top truck manufacturers, inked a cooperation agreement with Chengdu Wangpai Vehicle Co., Ltd on Monday for establishing a new commercial vehicle plant with annual production capacity of 400,000 units in Chengdu city, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan province.

The joint venture, with CNHTC holding an 80 percent stake, is set to produce entire package of commercial vehicles, ranging from heavy, medium, light to micro commercial vehicles.

Volvo Trucks Deliveries Rise 62 Percent Y/Y in July

Volvo Trucks has announced that its global deliveries have risen by 62 percent year-on-year (y/y) to 14,377 units in July, as demand continues to recover. By region, Western Europe remained its largest market, at 4,242 units with a gain of 56 percent in the month, while Eastern European sales saw even more considerable gains, up by 107 percent y/y to 622 units. Momentum in North America continued during July as sales increased by 52 percent y/y to 1,692 units. However, the Latin American market almost overtook it with a 112 percent y/y sales gain to 1,685 units. Total deliveries in Asia also rose by 68 percent y/y to 4,669 units, with a 128 percent increase in the Middle East to 1,106 units while markets elsewhere in the region grew 55 percent y/y to 3,563 units.
