Chinese Steel Group Inks Deal to Buy Delphi's Brake Unit

BEIJING -- A joint venture partly owned by leading Chinese steelmaker Shougang Group has signed an agreement to purchase the brake and suspension business of U.S. auto parts maker Delphi Corp., according to local media.

The deal was initially estimated at 100 million dollars, but "it does not even reach 90 million dollars at the most," says an official of the joint venture, BeijingWest Industries Co.

Andreas Renschler: Daimler Trucks to Scale-Back Russia JV Investment

PARIS/MOSCOW - Daimler Trucks will make a "very low" investment in its two planned joint ventures with Russia's Kamaz, despite expectations demand could rebound there earlier than elsewhere in Europe.

"It will be much lower," Andreas Renschler told the Reuters Auto Summit on Tuesday, when asked how it would compare to the truck maker's 700 million euro ($1.02 billion) investment in a new Indian site in Chennai.

Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland Ramp up Bus Production to Fulfill DTC Orders

To avoid delays in supplying low-floor buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have speeded up the production of these buses.

DTC, which has placed an order for around 2,500 low-floor buses (including some AC buses as well) that will be used during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, is said to have asked Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland to make sure that the buses are supplied on time. While Ashok Leyland has already overshot its September deadline, Tata Motors says it’s confident of being able to meet its February 2010 deadline.

MAN's Profit Sinks in Weak Truck Market

FRANKFURT -- German truck maker and engineering company MAN SE said the steep downturn in the truck market all but wiped out any third-quarter earnings, but added that commercial-vehicle sales are stabilizing at a low level.

"The cost-cutting measures we initiated at an early stage are bearing fruit and, together with the strong order backlogs at diesel engines and turbo machinery, are helping us cope with the lean period," the Munich-based company said.

Ashok Leyland Net Up 33 Percent

Chennai - Ashok Leyland registered a 33 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 89 crore for the quarter ending September 30, 2009, against Rs 67 crore registered in the same quarter of the previous year.

This growth is despite a 16 per cent drop in net sales at Rs 1,577 crore (Rs 1,870 crore). Vehicle sales dropped to 14,297 units (17,207), a 17 per cent drop.

MAN Se to Manufacture Trucks in Russia

The MAN Group, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles, engines and mechanical engineering equipment, is set to launch truck production in Russia, reports Suddeutsche Zeitung. Now the company is in talks with a number of possible partners, Hkan Samuelsson, Chairman of the Executive board of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, said.

Beiqi Foton Up 546.69 Percent in Q3 Net, CNHTC Jinan Truck 136.16 Percent

SHANGHAI, October 30, SinoCast -- Two Chinese commercial vehicle front-runners, Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. (SHSE: 600166) and CNHTC Jinan Truck Co., Ltd. (SZSE: 000951), saw their net profits for the third quarter of 2009 rocket 546.69 percent and 136.16 percent year on year, respectively.

Beiqi Foton reaped net profit of CNY 245 million and basic earnings per share (EPS) of CNY 0.267 during the report period, and its EPS for the first three quarters reached CNY 0.762.
