ZF Collaborates with ISE on HD CV Hybrid Drive System

ZF Friedrichshafen (ZF), a company that produces vehicle driveline and chassis technology, is collaborating with ISE Corporation (ISE), a leading designer and manufacture of hybrid propulsion systems and components for heavy duty vehicles, to develop and supply a range of Parallel-electric hybrid drive systems and components in the United States.

CNHTC Jinan Truck Profits May Fall 50 Percent to 60 Percent in H1 Net

JINAN - Jinan Truck of China National Heavy-duty Truck (CNHTC) Co., Ltd. (SZSE: 000951) predicted a decline of 50-60 percent in net profit for the first half of 2009 mainly due to the sales fall, but its estimated rebound in production and sales in the second half will drive up its profitability.

It foresaw that its net profit and basic earnings per share (EPS) would stand at CNY 160 million and CNY 0.38 in the first half, respectively. The Shenzhen-listed truck maker produced 40,447 and 32,096 vehicles from January to May, separately falling 10.17 percent and 16.98 percent year on year, including 7,010 and 8,171 ones in May alone.

Volvo Secures Shanghai Bus Deal for 1,500 Units

Volvo Buses, with subsidiary Sunwin Bus, has signed a framework agreement for 1,500 buses with bus operator Bashi Group in Shanghai, China.

The agreement is valued at approximately SEK 1.3 billion and the buses will be delivered up to the opening of the World Expo in Shanghai in May next year.

The City of Shanghai is making major investments in modernizing and streamlining its public transport prior to the World Expo, which will open on May 1, 2010. The theme for the fair is “Better City, Better Life”.

Iran Plans to be Middle East’s Commercial Vehicles Test Center

Tousee Khodro Car Co., affiliated to Iran Khodro Diesel, will become a test center for commercial vehicles in the Middle East.

Payam Naseri, the president of Tousee Khodro Car Co. said in this regard, "We have acquired the capabilities of testing all kinds of commercial vehicles approved by the Institute of Standard and Industrial Research of Iran and we are going to improve our cooperation with well known European test centers for commercial vehicles."

US DoD to Award MATV Contract to One of Five - Traders Go Wild

NEW YORK - The U.S. Department of Defense is expected to award a government contract in coming days, prompting a whirlwind of trades in companies that are vying for the lucrative work.

The closely watched defense contract is said to involve the construction of more than 5,000 all-terrain vehicles (M-ATVs) to be used in Afghanistan.

Brazil’s Marcopolo Mulls Offer for Busscar

So Paulo, 19 - Brazil's largest bus body maker Marcopolo plans to make an offer for local rival Busscar in a deal coordinated by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), reported local daily O Estado de S. Paulo Friday.

Together, the two companies would control 50 percent of the domestic market and have 11,000 employees. A Marcopolo spokesman confirmed the company's plan to make a proposal for Busscar.

Volvo Unveils Proprietary Medium-Heavy Engine

At Volvo’s Capital Market Day in Eskilstuna, Sweden, Volvo CEO Leif Johansson announced that the Group had developed its own medium-heavy engine for trucks and buses scheduled for launch in 2010.

Johansson said that the Volvo Group is developing an in-house, Group-wide platform for medium-heavy diesel engines. He said that the Volvo Group’s investments in research and technology will remain at high levels in the next few years since new emissions legislation will be introduced for trucks, buses and construction equipment. In the future, the emissions laws from the various countries will become more harmonized and by having a global technology platform in place, the Volvo Group will be able to generate economies of scale in research and development as well as purchasing and production.

Hengtong Bus Output Rose 12.5 Percent in Jan-May

CHONGQIN - Chinese bus maker Chongqing Hengtong Bus Co., Ltd. gained a year-on-year growth of 12.5 percent in production and 12.3 percent in output value in the first five months of 2009.

In spite of the recession in the bus industry, the company jumped onto the eighth position on the industry list in the first four months, compared with the 13th of last year, and further rose to the seventh in May.

European May ‘09 Truck Sales Fall 50 Percent on Spain, Italy, Germany

European heavy-truck sales slumped 50 percent in May, led by Spanish and Italian deliveries, as the global recession ravaged the region’s main markets, eroding demand from freight transporters and construction companies.

Manufacturers sold 13,342 trucks weighing 16 metric tons or more last month compared with 26,447 a year earlier, the Brussels-based European Automobile Manufacturers Association said in a statement today. Five-month sales plunged 45 percent to 78,386 trucks.
