Mahindra Navistar Will Enter Bus Market by Next Fiscal

Mahindra Navistar said on Thursday that it plans to launch a range of buses on a new purpose-built platform by 2011-12.

The company aims to produce both diesel and CNG variants for the 16-tonne category.

German Government Incentive for Early Adoption of Euro-6 Likely

The German Government n government is likely to introduce an incentive for the early adoption of Euro-6, like it has done prior to the implementation of some other earlier Euro emissions standards, according to Andreas Renschler, head of Daimler trucks and buses.

He believes this will be done via Maut, the German road user charge levied on HGVs, whereby the operators of Euro-6 trucks will pay a reduced fee. In his opinion such an incentive could be introduced in 2012, and if it is, Mercedes-Benz will have a range of Euro-6 trucks ready to sell to operators wanting to cash-in on the saving.

Hyundai to Seek Board Approval to Acquire Rare-Earth Supplies for EVs

Hyundai is seeking to acquire reserves of rare-earth materials used in electric and hybrid cars as the industry foresees a possible shortage of these minerals, reports Reuters. The company has proposed in a regulatory filing submitted on 18 February a change in its articles of incorporation to "secure resources for the development of eco-friendly vehicles".

An unnamed Hyundai spokesperson said that, "We will make efforts to vigorously secure rare earths and other rare resources used in cars." The proposal is currently subject to shareholders' approval at a meeting to be held on 11 March.

WABCO China Sales Up 69 Percent Y/Y 2010 - Moderate Growth Expected in 2011

Belgian commercial vehicle supplier WABCO has reported strong growth in China. WABCO's truck and bus sales increased 69 percent in China last year, said Jacques Esculier, WABCO chairman and chief executive officer in a statement on the company Web site. "In 2011, we see strong market growth and we expect to continue to outperform all global markets while further increasing WABCO content per vehicle, particularly in emerging economies", said Esculier.

Daimler Plans BharatBenz Truck Brand for Indian Market

Daimler AG will begin selling a new brand of trucks in India next year, challenging former partner Tata Motors Ltd. as economic growth and new highways spur demand in that country, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The Germany-based company will sell 6-ton to 49-ton vehicles under the BharatBenz brand, CEO Dieter Zetsche said.

International Tractors in Talks with Argentina’s Apache to Distribute Sonalika

CHENNAI: Delhi-based tractor company International Tractors (maker of the Sonalika brand of tractors) is in advanced negotiations with Argentina-based company Apache for a collaboration. According to a top Sonalika official, the company is all set to kick off its assembly operations in various parts of Latin America, including Argentina and is talking to Apache for a distribution-related collaboration. The alliance is estimated to be worth around $25 million and will sell co-branded tractors.
