SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Rush Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: RUSHA and RUSHB), which operates the largest network of commercial vehicle dealerships in North America and two John Deere construction equipment dealerships in southeast Texas, today announced that it has acquired certain assets of Lake City Companies, LLC and certain of its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, "Lake City International"), which operates a commercial truck and bus sales, service, parts, finance and leasing business representing multiple brands, including International, IC Bus, Autocar, Mitsubishi Fuso, Kalmar, Workhorse, and Idealease truck leasing.
President Barack Obama Friday directed the Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency to develop standards for medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The standards will take effect with 2014 model-year trucks.
Remy International has finalized terms of a US$60.2m grant from the US Department of Energy that, the company said, will allow it to accelerate standardization and commercialization of its HVH electric motor technology.
Remy, the largest independent North American manufacturer of electric motors for hybrid and electric vehicles, was nominated for the grant in August 2009 as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and received conditional approval in December 2009.
Truck tonnage surged 7.5 percent in April from a year ago, the fifth straight year-to-year increase and the largest gain in more than five years, American Trucking Associations said Friday.
Tonnage has risen 6 percent this year compared with the same period in 2009, ATA said in its monthly seasonally adjusted for-hire truck tonnage index.
April commercial trailer net orders fell from stronger levels in the past few months, dropping 13 percent from March, according to ACT Research Co.
The April net orders were 3 percent above the prior year level and year-to-date growth in net orders through April is 72 percent.
